Newly drafted Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart just started his NBA career, but he’s already impressing his coaches and teammates.

Smart’s intangibles are a big part of what makes him appealing. He’s a leader and a strong competitor.

“I’d say the first thing you notice right away is what a competitor he is, the level of intensity he brings to every play offensively and defensively,” Celtics assistant coach Jay Larranaga said Thursday, two days before the team’s Pro Summer League opener in Orlando, Fla. “He’s been a lot of fun to work with.”

Celtics guard Chris Babb also had positive things to say about Smart and fellow 2014 NBA draft pick James Young.

“They drafted two good college players,” Babb said. “I think they’re going to be good pros and great assets to this team, so I’m looking forward to playing with them.”
