Boston Red Sox starter Joe Kelly exited after the fifth inning of Friday’s contest against the Seattle Mariners despite giving up just one hit and striking out five.

The reason was for what Kelly described as a “minor tweak” in his right shoulder during the fifth inning. Kelly said he had never felt that particular pain before, so he was taken out strictly as a precaution. He expects to make his next start, which would be Wednesday against the Toronto Blue Jays, barring any changes to the rotation.
