For one Manchester United fan, it was better for her to be lucky than for her team to be good on Tuesday.
Holly Griffiths, a 20-year-old Manchester United fan, won £1,250 ($2,072) when she accidentally bet on the MK Dons beating the Red Devils in the League Cup instead of the other way around, as she intended.
Griffiths placed a £2.50 ($4.15) wager on MK Dons to beat Manchester United 4-0 at 500-1 odds. When MK Dons, who play in England’s League One (third division) upset their opponents from the Premier League, Griffiths was in the money.

Griffiths plans to invest her new-found funds into one of her other passions.
“My friend had just put a bet on United to win 4-0 so I thought I’d do the same,” Griffiths told the Mail. “I wasn’t paying much attention though and ended up putting it on MK Dons instead.
“I wasn’t actually watching the game — I’d turned it off — and realized 10 minutes before the end. It was unbelievable. “I’ve just taken up horse riding again so want to buy a horse. I wanted one before my 21st birthday in January.”
Griffiths now is closer to buying that horse. It seems Manchester United couldn’t be farther away from success in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson period as it currently is.
