Bud Bash Homers Of The Week: Rusney Castillo Crushes First MLB Homer

In what’s turned out to be a lost season for the Boston Red Sox, the team’s rookies have been getting their time in the starting lineup.

And boy, have they delivered.

Three Red Sox rookies hit their first major league home runs this week, including the $72.5 million outfielder Rusney Castillo. Castillo launched a three-run jack into the Green Monster seats Thursday, adding to what would be a blowout 11-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Catcher Christian Vazquez and third baseman Garin Cecchini also hit their first homers for Boston.

There was no shortage of fireworks elsewhere in the league, either.

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig hit a go-ahead solo shot Wednesday night against the San Francisco Giants in L.A.’s 9-1, National League West-clinching victory. In that same series, Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner helped his own cause with a two-run homer Tuesday.

Other notable home runs this week include Baltimore Orioles outfielder Nelson Cruz’s 40th homer of the season and Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre’s walk-off against the struggling Oakland Athletics.
