Derek Jeter might not be as generous as we all thought.
The famously private New York Yankees star has opened up somewhat during his final big league season, and now he’s setting the record straight on a very serious rumor that has swirled for years.
The New York Post’s Emily Smith reported in 2011 that Jeter would give gift baskets — filled with a signed ball and other autographed memorabilia — to female companions the morning after their rendezvous. Legend has it that the women who spent the night at his Trump Tower apartment would be greeted with the Jeter swag and a ride home in the morning, but he reportedly gave the same girl the same gift basket twice.
Jeter vehemently denied the absurd rumor in New York Magazine’s recent profile of him.
“Like I’m giving them signed baseballs and pictures of myself on the way out! Who comes up with a story like that?” Jeter said while laughing. “It said the reason people found out was because I gave the same girl the same basket and I had forgotten I’d given her one — like there are so many people coming through I forgot!”
Well, so much for that story. But if the rumors were true, Jeter would’ve had to have a serious stock of baskets at his home, given the number of ladies linked to him.
