Boston Red Sox pitcher Joe Kelly takes an old-school approach to preparing for starts.

The right-hander likes to physically write down notes and jot down any and every tendency that a hitter has, whether it be a player struggling with a certain pitch or a player jumping at the first ball he sees.

“I was never good at taking notes in college, I got bad grades,” Kelly explained to NESN’s Gary Striewski. “So I figured if I took better notes as a starting pitcher, I might actually get a little better grades out there on the mound.”
