Report: Brazil Cut Maicon For Breaking Curfew By 11 Hours In Miami

Maicon was dropped from Brazil’s national team Sunday — seemingly without reason.

Well, the mystery of Maicon’s expulsion apparently has been solved, and we can explain it in a single word: “Miami.”

Maicon broke a Saturday night curfew by an astonishing 11 hours. The 33-year-old fullback was supposed to return to his team’s hotel in Miami at 8 p.m. but didn’t return until 7 a.m. Sunday morning, according to Globo.

Brazil beat Colombia 1-0 on Friday night at Sun Life Stadium. Brazil head coach Dunga gave his players an off day Saturday.

Maicon made the most of his free time in South Florida, but it cost him a place on Brazil’s national team (at least for now).

Dunga gave no explanation for dropping Maicon ahead of Tuesday’s exhibition game against Ecuador at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The CBF, Brazil’s soccer federation, gave no reason for Maicon’s expulsion beyond saying it was for “indiscipline” and calling it an “internal matter,” according to The Associated Press.

We always knew Miami was a fun town. It now can add another name to its honor roll.
