New England Patriots v Miami DolphinsFormer New England Patriots wide receiver Reche Caldwell could be facing serious jail time after pleading guilty Wednesday to possession and intent to sell ecstasy.

Caldwell was arrested in Tampa, Fla., in May after trying to send two packages of the drug in the mail. He admitted to shipping and receiving more than two pounds, per TMZ Sports.

The offense carries a maximum punishment of 20 years in a federal prison, though TMZ noted that he will likely serve less time after working out a plea deal.

Caldwell is also facing charges for running an illegal gambling operation and possession of marijuana.

The 35-year-old spent one season in New England in 2006. His last NFL appearance came with the Washington Redskins in 2007.
