Premier League Ref Mark Clattenburg Dropped After Attending Concert

Mark Clattenburg made two bad calls Saturday, which have cost him a chance to referee Premier League games this weekend.

The Professional Game Match Officials Limited, which governs Premier League referees, has dropped Clattenburg from this weekend’s games for two rules violations following Saturday’s 2-2 draw between West Brom and Crystal Palace, the BBC reports.

Clattenburg, 39, had an illegal phone conversation with Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock.

PGMOL rules forbid referees (and their assistants) from speaking to managers more than 30 minutes after a game, and all officials must be present during the conversation.

Clattenburg then left the Hawthorns (West Brom’s stadium) and drove by himself to Newcastle, England, in order to attend pop star Ed Sheeran’s concert.

PGMOL requires all game officials to travel to and from the stadium together for “for integrity and security” purposes.

This is the third time (since 2009) Clattenburg has been disciplined by the PGMOL.
