Tony Romo: Jason Witten ‘Might Be The Best Dallas Cowboy Of All Time’

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is a big fan of tight end Jason Witten, but he might lack historical knowledge of his team’s storied franchise.

During a conference call with Seattle-area media on Wednesday, Romo had nothing but very high praise for Witten.

“He might be the best Dallas Cowboy of all time,” Romo said, via ESPN. “Literally, his career has been exceptional. He’s hit every mark you could ever have, and he’s going to go down as the first- or second-greatest tight end of all time. I’ve just been lucky enough to play with him.”

The nine-time Pro-Bowler has undoubtedly been an outstanding player throughout his career, but he’s up against some stiff competition when discussing some of the “best Cowboys of all time” candidates.

There are currently 12 former Cowboys in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, including running backs Emmitt Smith and Tony Dorsett, quarterbacks Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman as well as wide receivers Michael Irvin and Bob Hayes.

Witten could eventually join the aforementioned greats in Canton, as he’s put up Hall of Fame caliber numbers of his own. The 32-year-old is the Cowboys’ all-time leader in receptions with 898 and boasts a career yardage total of 10,014. Still, proclaiming him the best Cowboy of all time is a bold statement.

Tony Romo and his prized tight end will take on the Seattle Seahawks in a tough matchup that threatens Dallas’ 4-1 record Sunday.
