What World Was Like When Boston Red Sox Won 2004 World Series (Photos)

A lot has changed over the last 10 years.

The Boston Red Sox won their first World Series since 1918 on Oct. 27, 2004. They defeated the St. Louis Cardinals to complete a four-game sweep and cap an incredible postseason run that featured the greatest comeback in MLB history.

The Red Sox have since won two more World Series — in 2007 and 2013 — en route to becoming one of baseball’s most successful franchises. It’s a stunning reality given where Boston was before, overcoming a 3-0 deficit against the New York Yankees in the 2004 American League Championship Series and dispatching the Cardinals in the Fall Classic to snap an 86-year championship drought.

As Boston celebrates the 10-year anniversary of breaking the Curse of the Bambino, it’s a good time to reflect on what was going on in the world back in 2004. Trust us. You might be surprised by what you’ve already forgotten.
