ESPN tweeted at hockey fans Tuesday using each NHL team’s Twitter handle as a way to get people to apply to the network’s Fan Hall of Fame.

Seems pretty normal, right?

The problem is, ESPN is notorious among hockey diehards for their longtime policy of essentially denying the NHL’s existence. So when the Columbus Blue Jackets saw the tweet, they decided to have a little fun at ESPN’s expense.

And as if that wasn’t good enough, the San Jose Sharks chimed in with a quip of their own.

While ESPN obviously gives the most air time to the most popular sports, it sometimes does seem as though they’d play even the most obscure highlight before they’d show anything hockey-related. However, the NHL definitely got the last laugh this time.
