BOSTON — The Bruins will be without one of their top-six forwards when they play the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night in the first game of a back-to-back.

Brad Marchand skated as an extra forward during Thursday’s practice and isn’t going to Columbus as he recovers from an undisclosed injury, per Bruins head coach Claude Julien. Julien also said Marchand is “doing better” and considered “day to day.”

Matt Fraser skated in Marchand’s spot at left wing on the second line alongside Patrice Bergeron and Reilly Smith. It’s the same position Fraser played in during Tuesday night’s 2-0 win over the St. Louis Blues when Marchand didn’t play.

Dougie Hamilton returned to practice after missing Wednesday’s session with a flu bug/virus. Zach Trotman also skated with the team after being called up from the Providence Bruins on Thursday morning.

Here are the lines, pairings and goalies from practice:
Milan Lucic-David Krejci-Seth Griffith
Matt Fraser-Patrice Bergeron-Reilly Smith
Chris Kelly-Carl Soderberg-Loui Eriksson
Daniel Paille-Gregory Campbell-Simon Gagne

Joe Morrow-Kevan Miller/Zach Trotman

Tuukka Rask and Niklas Svedberg
