Chances are that Jack Eichel won’t be on the college hockey scene for very long.
Boston University’s freshman phenom is expected to be selected within the first two picks of the upcoming NHL draft and is being touted as one of the best American college hockey players of all time.
So, how’s Eichel handling the pressure?
“There’s always going to be pressure, but I think the person who puts the most pressure on me is myself,” the Terriers forward told NESN. “I try not to think about it too much. I try to just be myself day in and day out and make sure that I’m working hard and just trying to get better.”
Eichel has been compared to American No. 1 picks like the Chicago Blackhawks’ Patrick Kane and even Hall of Famer Mike Modano. Still, the 18-year-old doesn’t understand the hype.
“To be honest, I’m not really sure why people make those comparisons,” Eichel said. “Mike Modano is the best American hockey player of all time. I don’t know why anyone would make a comparison between me and him. Obviously, it’s a huge compliment, but I have a really long way to go.”
