College Football Playoff Rankings: Alabama, Oregon Remain In Top Spots

After four weekends of mayhem, it appears the college football playoff picture finally has become clearer. For now, anyways.

The selection committee released its fifth playoff rankings Tuesday night, and for the first time since the initial rankings, the top four teams — Alabama, Oregon, Florida State and Mississippi State — remain unchanged. Three of the top four earned easy wins Saturday, while the Seminoles narrowly avoided an upset in a 20-17 win over Boston College.

The fifth, sixth and seventh spots also stay unchanged, as TCU and Ohio State are the first two teams out for the second consecutive week, with Baylor holding steady at No. 7. Last week’s No. 8 team wasn’t so lucky, as Ole Miss plummeted to No. 19 this week after losing 30-0 to Arkansas on Saturday.

Only 11 of the committee’s 12 members voted this week, as Mike Tranghese — who’s responsible for reporting on the Big 12 and Mountain West conferences — was sick and unable to travel.
