Zinedine Zidane’s Son Enzo Fernandez Debuts For Real Madrid B Team (Video)

Enzo Alan Zidane Fernandez probably won’t become as a good a soccer player as his father was, but his career already is turning in the right direction.

Fernandez, 19, debuted for Real Madrid’s B (or “Castilla”) team Sunday in its 2-1 win over Conquense in a Segunda B (Spanish third division) game. Fernandez’s father, French soccer legend and current Real Madrid B coach Zinedine Zidane, watched proudly as his oldest son took his first steps in the professional game.

Fernandez played only the last two minutes of the game, but he pulled off a neat piece of skill — a “roulette” turn, which his dad did numerous times at the highest level — during his cameo appearance.

Fernandez, who plays under his mother’s maiden name, never will escape comparisons to his father — especially when he performs tricks like these in the midfield and represents France at international level. Fernandez’s younger brothers Luca, Theo and Eliaz also play for Real Madrid’s academy teams.

It’s fun to imagine what kind of player Fernandez will become one day. Chances are, he’ll be a pretty good but not an all-time great.
