Cam Newton Suffers Two Fractures In Lower Back In Car Accident

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton didn’t walk away from Tuesday’s car accident completely unscathed.

Newton, who was involved in a two-car accident near the team’s stadium this afternoon, suffered two transverse process fractures in his back and “no further internal injuries,” the Panthers announced. Preliminary tests initially indicated that Newton did not suffer any fractures or serious injuries, according to reports.

Although the images of the collision certainly looked bad, Newton and the driver of the other vehicle were reportedly both transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The team announced Newton, in fair condition, would remain overnight at Carolinas Medical Center for observation even before his injuries were announced.

Tony Romo also had two transverse fractures in his back earlier this season, sidelining him for just one game.
