FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Boston Celtics assistant coach Walter McCarty has agreed to pay more than $20,000 to a contractor for the purchase and installation of kitchen cabinets, and in exchange a larceny charge will be dismissed.

The MetroWest Daily News reports that under a deal reached in court Thursday, the 40-year-old McCarty has until Dec. 31 to pay the money.

Prosecutors say McCarty ordered more than $30,000 worth of cabinetry for the home he’s building in Wayland. He paid $12,000, but authorities say a second check for the balance bounced, and several requests by the contractor for the money were ignored.

McCarty’s lawyer says the case was a misunderstanding and that McCarty’s bank account had been compromised.
