Lamar Miller entered Sunday needing 79 rushing yards to reach 1,000 on the season. He only needed one carry to take care of that.
In the third quarter against the New York Jets, the Miami Dolphins running back took the handoff at his own 3-yard line and went nearly untouched for a 97-yard touchdown run.
We’re guessing that’s not how the Jets’ defense drew it up.
Miller’s impressive dash was the longest run in Dolphins history and the third-longest run in NFL history, behind only Ahmad Greene’s 98-yard run in 2003 and Tony Dorsett’s 99-yard sprint in 1982. The 23-year-old finished the day with 178 rushing yards and a score, giving him over 1,000 yards in a season for the first time in his young NFL career.
Perhaps more surprising than Miller’s highlight-reel run, though, was the outcome of the game. With his tenure in New York reportedly all but over, head coach Rex Ryan led his team to one final victory, as the Jets reeled off 23 consecutive points to earn a 37-24 road win.
