Report: Jets Called Rex Ryan’s Agent To Find Candidate For Head Coach Job

The New York Jets reportedly are calling agents about their head coaching job, including the agent of their current head coach.

A Jets advisor recently reached out to Rex Ryan’s agent to inquire about another client’s interest in becoming New York’s head coach, according to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer. It’s a very low blow on the Jets’ part, considering they haven’t fired Ryan from his position yet.

It was expected that Ryan would get the axe after the Jets’ abysmal 4-12 season, but perhaps the phone call is why the head coach reportedly cleaned out his office earlier this week.

As for Ryan’s future, NJ.com reported that he’ll refuse to take a defensive coordinator job if he’s offered one.

“Rex Ryan, fired up on the Jets sideline, told us last night that he’s not worried about his future,” CBS’ Andrew Catalon said during Sunday’s Jets-Miami Dolphins broadcast. “He was very confident that things will work out. He said he will not be a defensive coordinator next year. It’s a head coach or nothing. He’s not coaching someone else’s defense, he told us.”
