Karl Alzner looked slightly cooler than the rest of his Washington Capitals teammates during Thursday’s Winter Classic at Nationals Park.
The Caps defenseman rocked a pair of sweet shades to combat the bright and sunny skies that threatened to delay the start time of the outdoor game. While many of Alzner’s teammates and a good chunk of Chicago Blackhawks players sported eye black or tinted visors, the blue liner was the only one to bust out the sunglasses.

Alzner practiced with them on yesterday as well, and said it helped his vision a significant amount.
“I honestly think that guys didn’t think they’d be allowed to wear them, but I came into this planning to wear them,” Alzner said, per CSN Chicago. “It worked out well. I took them off for a little bit during our power play and penalty kill, and you notice a difference right away. So I’m planning on wearing them.”
Hockey sunglasses — officially a thing now.
