Klay Thompson Just Can’t Miss, Sets NBA Record In Warriors’ Rout (Video)

The Boston Celtics might want to guard Klay Thompson on Sunday night. The Sacramento Kings certainly forgot to do it.

Thompson, the Golden State Warriors’ sharpshooter, made all 13 shots he took in the third quarter Friday night and finished with an NBA-record 37 points in one quarter. He hit nine 3-pointers and both of his free-throw attempts, as the Warriors rolled to a 126-101 win over the visiting Kings.

Thompson broke the NBA record of 33 points in a quarter, held by George Gervin (1978) and Carmelo Anthony (2008), and bested Michael Redd’s and Joe Johnson’s league mark of eight 3-pointers in a quarter. Thompson did it against a Kings defense that more resembles swiss cheese than an NBA-caliber unit since coach Michael Malone’s surprise in-season firing, but that doesn’t make it any less impressive.

“It was kind of a blur,” Thompson, who finished with a career-high 52 points, told The Associated Press. “I wish I could go back and enjoy it some more, but moments like that go by really fast.”

The Celtics only hope they don’t suffer a similar fate when they visit Oakland later this weekend.
