Jermaine Kearse’s game-winning football from Sunday’s NFC Championship Game certainly ended up in some interesting hands.
Seahawks fan Scott Shelton currently is in possession of the football that the Seattle wide receiver launched into the stands after he caught the overtime touchdown pass from Russell Wilson to send his team to their second consecutive Super Bowl. According to KOMO News, a sports memorabilia collector already has offered Shelton $20,000 for the football, but he has his sights set on something different.
The 30-year-old jobless father of two young children turned down the offer and plans to give the ball back to its rightful owner — but not before asking Kearse for a little something in return.
“My phone rings, and it was Jermaine! Jermaine Kearse, you know? The Man!” Shelton told KOMO News. “We were just talking about the game. He told me he wanted to trade his game helmet signed by the team and his jersey for the ball. And then he asked me what (else) I wanted for the ball. And I said, ‘Honestly, it would be nice to go see you guys whip New England in the Super Bowl.’ So he’s going to see what he can do about that. But I told him I wouldn’t give it up unless it was going to him. I wouldn’t want anyone else to have it.”
There’s only one little catch. If Kearse manages to procure him a ticket to the Super Bowl on Feb. 1, Shelton won’t be able to enjoy Arizona for very long. You see, he’s due to start serving several months in jail the very next day at 2 p.m., so he’ll have to hustle back to Washington.
Fingers crossed there’s an early flight.
