The Gadsden Flag once was used to rally actual patriots during the American Revolution, so perhaps that’s why Bill Belichick wore it for his own Patriots.

Before Sunday night’s Super Bowl XLIX against the Seattle Seahawks, the New England head coach rocked a shirt featuring a coiled rattlesnake and the words “Don’t tread on me” over stars and stripes. The front showed what appears to be an unofficial New England Patriots logo.

Patriots fans will hope that Belichick’s version of the flag has the same effect as the original, as the Seahawks certainly aren’t going to go down without a fight in Arizona.
