A win is a win.
The Boston Bruins didn’t put on their best performance Tuesday night against the Ottawa Senators, but they still skated away with the 3-1 victory. B’s head coach Claude Julien admitted that his team only put in a good first period and said goaltender Tuukka Rask’s 39-save performance — on his 28th birthday, no less — was the reason the Bruins collected two points.
“There’s no doubt he probably saved our bacon tonight,” Julien told NESN’s Jack Edwards and Andy Brickley after the game.
However, Julien added it’s good to see that a team can pull out an ugly win, especially over an opponent like the Senators, who had won eight of their last nine before Tuesday’s matchup.
“When you’re capable of playing games that you don’t think you played the best, but you realize you did the things you had to do to win, that’s important right now,” Julien said. “At this stage, those two points become extremely valuable. Again, this team here was on a pretty good roll, and they seemed pretty confident, so for us to come in here and take two points from them is pretty good for us.”
