Jordan Henderson: I Want To Stay At Liverpool For ‘Many Years’

Jordan Henderson won’t allow the pace of contract talks to cloud his future.

Henderson said Sunday he loves playing for Liverpool and wants to remain at Anfield for many years, according to the Liverpool Echo. Henderson and Liverpool are locked in negotiations over a new contract, and his original deal with the Reds is set to expire after next season.

While Henderson’s representatives speak to Liverpool on his behalf, he continues to shine for both club and country.

“It’s definitely not (a major issue),” Henderson said about the negotiations. “I love playing football for Liverpool and I want to be there for many years.

“In terms of my contract, I think everybody else will make a big deal of it, but for me, it’s just letting my agent and the club deal with it, and whenever it gets sorted, it gets sorted. All I want to do is my best for club and country.”

Henderson, 24, is Liverpool’s vice-captain and the favorite to succeed Steven Gerrard as the club’s skipper after the latter departs for the Los Angeles Galaxy this summer. Henderson’s development at Anfield makes him a role model in a squad full of exciting, young talents. He’d like to stick around, see his teammates follow in his footsteps and pursue major honors alongside them.

“At Liverpool, we’ve got fantastic players, real quality players and a lot of potential,” Henderson said. “We’re a young team, and I think there is great potential, and a big part of us is wanting to be winners and winning trophies. I really feel we can do that.

The £20 million ($30 million) that Liverpool paid to sign Henderson from Sunderland in 2011 now seems like money well spent. The fee will look progressively better the longer Henderson remains at Anfield and maintains his current form.
