Mitchell & Ness is known for its throwback jerseys, so the clothing company tallied its 2014 sales to find out which jerseys were most popular in each state.
Most of the results won’t surprise you in the least bit, but a few certainly will.
New England actually was home to some of the most and least predictable results. Larry Bird’s 1985-86 Boston Celtics jersey led the way in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, while Boston Red Sox great Carl Yastrzemski’s 1975 jersey took the top prize in Vermont.
But New Hampshire and Connecticut’s affinity for Vince Carter’s Toronto Raptors rookie jersey is a little surprising. New Hampshire’s border with Canada might explain things, but the only excuse we have for Connecticut is that their mixed support of New England and New York teams probably cancelled a lot of other top choices out. Or it could just be because it’s probably the best throwback on the list.
Maine’s choice of Dave Winfield’s 1978 San Diego Padres jersey, however, is way beyond us.
The popularity of Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant’s No. 8 rookie jersey in multiple regions of the country also stands out on the map. Especially because we’re not too sure whether a jersey of an active player — different number or not — counts as a throwback.
