Raheem Sterling Tells LFC Fans He’s Not Greedy In BBC Interview (Video)

Raheem Sterling wants to set the record straight about his contract stand-off with Liverpool.

Sterling told the BBC on Wednesday that money isn’t driving his current refusal to commit his future to Liverpool by signing a long-term contract. Sterling, 20, says taking care of his family and succeeding on the field are far more important to him than financial considerations.

“It’s not about the money at all,” Sterling said. “It’s never been about money. I talk about winning trophies throughout my career. That’s all I talk about.

“I don’t want to be perceived as a money-grabbing 20-year-old. I just want to be seen as a kid who loves to play football and to do the best for the team.”

Sterling’s current contract expires after the 2016-17 season. He twice rejected contract offers earlier this season and now has put off further negotiations until this summer.

Liverpool faces the prospect of Sterling leaving the club for what he believes to be greener pastures.

A host of top clubs in England and Europe reportedly are monitoring Sterling’s contract situation with an eye toward buying him from Liverpool or signing him as a free agent.

Meanwhile, Sterling continues to be a key player in Liverpool’s lineup. The versatile attacker has scored 10 goals in 43 games in all competitions this season.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers trusts Sterling to perform at a high level despite the uncertainty about his future. Sterling wants fans to do the same.
