BOSTON — Blake Swihart put his head down, ran hard and came away with his first major league hit.
Swihart legged out an infield single in the fifth inning Saturday as the Boston Red Sox faced the New York Yankees at Fenway Park. The hit came in the 23-year-old’s second career at-bat with the Red Sox.
The Red Sox promoted Swihart before Saturday’s game after fellow catcher Ryan Hanigan fractured his right hand in Friday’s 3-2 loss to the Yankees. Swihart is considered the top catching prospect in Major League Baseball, largely because of the switch-hitter’s offensive prowess.
