The Boston Red Sox knew they were getting a raw talent when they brought in Rusney Castillo, but that’s been even more evident during his short time with the big league club.
The Cuban defector is a great baseball player, but as NESN’s Jerry Remy said on “Red Sox Gameday Live” prior to Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Twins, he’ll need to perfect the mental aspects of the game before becoming a real star.
“You look at Rusney (Tuesday) night, you see a very talented player … that has an awful lot of baseball ability,” Remy said. “On the other side of that, you see a young guy coming to the big leagues not yet experienced in all facets of the game. …
“So, you get the good and the bad with young players, and you’ve certainly got a guy with a lot of athletic ability but has yet to harness the inside part of the game, the mental part of the game, and I think that will come for him.”
