‘Los Angeles Rams’ Redirect Page On NFL.com Freaks Out Football Fans

There’s a good chance there’ll be an NFL team in Los Angeles in the near future, but some writers and fans are convinced that there’s already a plan in the works.

The website Field of Schemes pointed out Monday that NFL.com seems to have a page set up for the Los Angeles Rams, insinuating that they’re preparing to move the team from St. Louis back to Southern California. The theory was picked up by major sports news sites and quickly went viral, but it’s not entirely true.

Here’s what it boils down to. When you put the following link in your browser, you get what looks like an NFL.com page for the Los Angeles Rams. Or you used to, at least, as the NFL seems to have pulled the page.

The rest of the Internet was quick to point out that the Oakland Raiders have a Los Angeles page, too, after entering their old abbreviation of “RAI” in place of the “LA” in the URL.

Many websites noticed that when you type abbreviations for other cities into the link, such as “LON” for London, they don’t work. However, there are a couple of cities that do work and that pretty much prove that these pages are just redirections for teams that have moved in the past.

Switching out “LA” for “BOS” will send you to the Boston Patriots, and “PHO” gives you the Phoenix Cardinals.

Sorry, NFL fans in L.A., but it looks as though there’s still no confirmation that you may soon be getting a team of your own.
