FOXBORO, Mass. — New England Patriots third-round draft pick Geneo Grissom is already itching for hockey season.
The Oklahoma defensive lineman has only been to New England once — during an official visit with the Patriots this spring — but apparently he’s a Boston Bruins fan.
“I love hockey,” Grissom said Saturday in a conference call when asked if he’s looking forward to moving to New England. “The Bruins are awesome, and (Zdeno) Chara’s a beast.”
Grissom, 6-foot-3, 262 pounds, would probably feel small next to the 6-foot-9, 256-pound Bruins defenseman.
Patriots first-round draft pick Malcom Brown said all he knows about Boston is that the Celtics play in the city. Now the Patriots need to draft a Boston Red Sox fan to complete the trifecta.
Grissom said he also had an official workout with the Patriots, but he wouldn’t disclose what position in which the Patriots plan to use him. He played everywhere from defensive tackle to linebacker at Oklahoma.
