The Boston Red Sox had quite a scare Saturday when both third baseman Pablo Sandoval and catcher Blake Swihart left the team’s game against the Kansas City Royals due to injuries.

But luckily, manager John Farrell doesn’t see disabled list stints in their futures.

“Both guys are sore,” Farrell said on NESN’s “Red Sox First Pitch” ahead of Sunday’s game against the Royals. “We don’t anticipate this is a DL situation for either at this point.”

Both Sandoval and Swihart rested Sunday, and they’re fortunate that the Red Sox have an off-day Monday.

“It comes at a good time,” Farrell said. “We’ll see how they respond to treatment today and tomorrow. What other testing is needed will be determined over the course of the next 24 hours or so, but hopefully this is short-term for both guys.”
