No matter what happens on the field Saturday afternoon, Fenway Park already will have witnessed a major victory.
The Boston Red Sox’s beloved ballpark on Saturday morning played host to the 2015 Run To Home Base, a special 9K run and 2-mile walk fundraising event in which all proceeds benefit the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program.
The event, emceed by NESN’s own Tom Caron, was a smashing success, raising approximately $1.5 million toward the program, which is dedicated to helping military members and their families heal the invisible wounds of war.
Among those on hand for the special event was Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker, who praised what the race has been able to accomplish.
“Home Base is one of the most innovative and creative programs to support veterans and their families who are dealing with (post-traumatic stress disorder) and the other ‘invisible wounds’ of war,” Baker said, “and I’m just really honored that this is part of what we here in the Commonwealth are doing for veterans.”
