President Obama Is Letting Demaryius Thomas’ Mom Out Of Prison

Katina Smith has been in prison since Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas was 12 years old. Now, the All-Pro wide receiver’s mother is getting out of jail free.

Smith is one of 46 people who had their drug sentences commuted by President Barack Obama on Monday and will be released on Nov. 10. She has served 15 years in prison for a crime she says she didn’t commit.

“I was not actually selling drugs,” Smith told FOX 31 Denver in a 2013 interview. “The D.A. wanted me to testify against my mother and said if I didn’t testify against my mother, I’d get charged with the whole conspiracy.”

Thomas, a three-time Pro Bowler, reportedly is considering rejecting a long-term contract extension from the Broncos, who used the franchise tag on the wideout on March 2. Thomas has caught 297 passes for over 4,400 yards and 35 touchdowns over the past three seasons.
