Here’s a good reason why Christian Benteke will wear Liverpool’s No. 9 jersey.
Benteke scored a stunning volley Sunday in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Swindon Town. The game was the Reds’ final preseason outing but Benteke’s first for Liverpool, following his £32.5 million ($50.6 million) transfer last month. Among the good aspects of Benteke’s unofficial debut was a goal, which stands as the Reds’ best of the preseason.
The game was goal-less in the 48th minute when Benteke controlled Joao Carlos Teixeira’s flicked pass with his chest and thundered a volley past goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux from 20 yards out.

Liverpool signed Benteke in order to solve its goal-scoring woes, which undermined it last season. Benteke will face tougher opposition than Swindon Town when the 2015-16 Premier League season opens this weekend, but the technique and confidence he demonstrated is undeniable.
