Both Pablo Sandoval and David Ortiz are out of the Boston Red Sox’s lineup Wednesday night against the Chicago White Sox, but it has nothing to do with injuries.

Instead, both players received a day off before the Red Sox travel to New York for an interleague series against the Mets.

“Both guys are fine. … Both of these guys are competitors,” Boston interim manager Torey Lovullo said on “Red Sox First Pitch” before Wednesday’s game. “It’s not the matchup with Sale that’s sitting them down. They want to play but if we’re going to, this is the type of situation we’re going to ask them to take a day off.”
