Goodell took over in 2006 and, one year later, had to deal with Spygate. The New England Patriots were accused of videotaping the New York Jets’ defensive signals, and Goodell ultimately handed down a fine to both Patriots coach Bill Belichick and the team, as well as the loss of a draft pick.

Whether you view those punishments as too harsh or too lenient, you can’t deny controversy now is the norm under Goodell. And his subsequent bad decisions appear to be taking their toll on his reputation.
