Stoke Fan Suffers Heart Attack After Philippe Coutinho’s Stunning Goal

Philippe Coutinho’s latest magic trick drove Liverpool fans into ecstasy and one Stoke City fan to the brink of death.

A Stoke City fan suffered a heart attack Sunday at the Britannia Stadium following Coutinho’s game-winning goal for Liverpool, according to The Liverpool Echo. Paramedics rushed to the unidentified man’s seat just after the final whistle, resuscitated him with a defibrillator and took him to a local hospital, where he’s now recovering.

“We had a call just before 5:50 p.m. to a male cardiac arrest,” a spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said, according to The Echo. “A community defibrillator was used at the stadium. Two ambulances were sent out and he was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital. It was a successful resuscitation.”

Coutinho scored the stunning goal in the 86th minute, giving Stoke City little time to muster a response in its season-opening loss to Liverpool.

Stoke City (and former Liverpool) midfielder Charlie Adam was foremost among the man’s many well-wishers.

Coutinho hasn’t commented on the goal or the stricken Stoke City fan, but he might tell him the goal was business and nothing personal. At least, that’s how the conversation would go down in our imaginations.
