History is calling David Ortiz’s name.
The Boston Red Sox designated hitter entered Saturday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays two home runs shy of the 500 mark. Now that number is one after he hit his 499th career homer off Rays left-hander Matt Moore.
“David Ortiz is all about putting up a good at-bat against anybody,” interim manager Torey Lovullo said on “Red Sox First Pitch” before Saturday’s game. “Just because he has a situation where he’s got good numbers against (Moore), I don’t think that went into any of his thought process, nor mine.”
