Mike Tomlin Stops Buzz About Steelers’ Headset Issues Against Patriots

Mike Tomlin is putting his foot down.

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ headset issues during last Thursday night’s season opener against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium caused quite a stir, with Tomlin even showing displeasure after the game. The NFL found the Patriots “had nothing to do with” the communication problems, though, and the league’s explanation apparently was enough for the Steelers head coach to move on.

Tomlin said immediately following Pittsburgh’s 28-21 loss to New England that the Steelers were hearing the Patriots’ radio broadcast in their coach-to-coach headsets. He also said it wasn’t the first time the Steelers experienced communication issues in New England, which piggybacked on two reports from earlier in the week detailing some alleged funny business by the Patriots.

It’s definitely wise for Tomlin and Co. to turn the page on HeadsetGate, as the Steelers will host the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2. The Niners are expected to regress this season due to some key departures, but they began their season with a 20-3 win Monday night over the Minnesota Vikings.
