Mookie Betts showed off his defensive prowess once again.
The Boston Red Sox center fielder made a terrific catch over the team’s bullpen Sunday to rob Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Darin Ruf of a potential home run.
When he was asked after Boston’s 6-2 win whether he’d rather make a great catch over hitting a ninth-inning home run, Betts revealed how important defense is to him.
“They’re both great,” Betts said on NESN’s “Red Sox Final” after the game. “I don’t think any one is more important than the other, but I do take great pride in playing defense because I feel like defense is more effort. If you put out effort, I feel like you can’t really go through a defensive slump, but hitting-wise, you can always hit some type of slump.”
