Fenway Park already is playing host to a classic college football rivalry this fall. Now the beloved ballpark will welcome eight high school teams to make a state tradition even more special.
The home of the Boston Red Sox will be the site of four high school football games on Thanksgiving Eve and Thanksgiving Day and will feature four of Massachusetts’ most iconic rivalries. Here are the matchups:
Nov. 25 (Thanksgiving Eve)
Xaverian vs. St. John’s Prep, 4 p.m. ET
Boston College High vs. Catholic Memorial, 7 p.m.
Nov. 26 (Thanksgiving Day)
Wellesley vs. Needham, 9 a.m.
Boston English vs. Boston Latin, Noon
“High school football takes center stage on Thanksgiving in one of New England’s longest-standing sporting traditions,” Fenway Sports Management president Sam Kennedy said in a statement. “This is going to be an unforgettable experience for all the young athletes, parents, alumni and fans of these high school football teams.”
These will be the first high school football games at Fenway Park since 1935. High school games at Fenway were common in the early 20th century, and the park even hosted the high school national championship game in 1912.
The special Thanksgiving doubleheader will cap off a busy week at Fenway. Boston College and Notre Dame will battle it out on the gridiron on Saturday, Nov. 21, and the park will host the AIG Fenway Hurling Classic and Irish Festival on Sunday, Nov. 22.
