Jonas Gustavsson To Make Boston Bruins Debut Vs. Colorado Avalanche

Jonas Gustavsson won the Boston Bruins backup goalie job in training camp and will make his regular-season debut for the Original Six club in Wednesday night’s road game against the Colorado Avalanche.

B’s head coach Claude Julien confirmed the news to reporters in Colorado.

Gustavsson spent the last three seasons with the Detroit Red Wings. He went 3-3-1 with a .911 save percentage and a 2.56 GAA in seven games during the 2014-15 campaign. He was signed to a professional tryout before training camp, then signed a one-year deal worth $700,000 shortly before the season opener.

The Bruins need a quality performance from Gustavsson to avoid an 0-4-0 start. Boston’s defense and goaltending haven’t met expectations through three games — the B’s have allowed 32 high-danger scoring chances and 16 goals against.

The Avalanche are a poor puck possession team and lack top-end skill on their blue line, but their offense is on fire with a league-best five goals per game average.
