David Pastrnak Has Fractured Foot; No Timetable For Return To Bruins

David Pastrnak’s foot injury is more severe than originally anticipated.

Pastrnak, who has missed the Boston Bruins’ last four games, has been diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture in his foot, according to general manager Don Sweeney.

“With David’s case, things changed a little bit,” Sweeney told reporters Wednesday, via The Boston Globe. “The initial X-rays were normal. We waited for swelling to go down. The symptoms were still persisting, so we went to have a more definitive CT scan. And it did reveal a small, non-displaced crack in an awkward location, so we have to give him some time.

“The course of action doesn’t change for him, except he just needs a little more rest.”

Sweeney reportedly did not offer a timetable for the 19-year-old winger’s return.

Pastrnak did not practice Tuesday or Wednesday, and he will not play Thursday when the Bruins host the Colorado Avalanche. His spot on Boston’s second line as of late has been filled by rookie Frank Vatrano, who scored one goal and tallied eight total shots on goal in two games over the weekend.

Defenseman Torey Krug also missed practice Tuesday and Wednesday, with head coach Claude Julien deeming both “maintenance” days. Julien said he expects Krug to play against Colorado.

“I’d be leaning more toward ‘yes,’ ” Julien said, via the Bruins’ official Twitter account.
