Soccer Player Scores Wind-Assisted Own Goal During Storm Barney (Video)

Storm Barney has battered the United Kingdom and booked one soccer player’s place in the hall of shame.

Kamarl Duncan, a defender for English lower-league club Thurrock FC, scored a wind-assisted own goal Wednesday in his team’s 1-1 draw with Romford.

A 70-mph wind gust carried Duncan’s attempted clearance backward toward his own goal, and the goalkeeper did his team no favors in preventing the infamous strike.

Thurrock manager Mark Stimson described the goal as comical.

“At times it was a joke, and Romford’s goal was something you can only describe after seeing — it was laughable,” Stimson said, according to Sky Sports.

These things are liable to happen when teams decide to play through a storm, as we saw in Israel in 2012 and in Italy one year later.
