The battle for the top spot in Group D has come to a boil in Turin, Italy.
Juventus hosts Manchester City on Wednesday at The Juventus Stadium. Manchester City would secure first place in the group with a win, while Juventus would overtake its English opponent in the standings if it prevails. Both teams are likely to advance to the Round of 16 regardless of the result, but the big prize is first place.
Vincent Kompany and David Silva are doubtful to play for Manchester City, which looks to recover from the 4-1 Premier League loss to Liverpool it suffered Saturday.
Juventus’ form in Serie A (Italy’s first division) is improving, but Manchester City will pose a stiffer challenge than domestic opponents. Midfielders Hernanes, Sami Khedira and Roberto Pereyra will miss the game due to injuries. Paul Pogba will bear much of the burden of driving Juventus forward from the key area of the field.
