MetLife Stadium To Stage Copa America ‘Centenario’ Final In June 2016

Metlife Stadium will host the Copa America Centenario final — one of the biggest soccer games to take place on United States soil in recent memory.

CONCACAF, CONMEBOL and The Copa America Centenario Local Organizing Committee announced in a statement Wednesday they’ll stage the final of the 2016 Copa America Centenario on June 26 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. One national team out of 16 will stand victorious at the end of the month-long competition, which will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the world’s oldest international soccer competition.

Mexico and the United States, as well as four yet-to-be determined teams from CONCACAF, will compete against their counterparts from South America.

Superstars like Argentina’s Lionel Messi and Brazil’s Neymar are expected to feature.

The month-long tournament is scheduled to begin on June 3. MetLife Stadium will be foremost among the 10 U.S. venues that will stage Copa America Centenario games. Organizers also selected Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass., as one of the venues.

Perhaps it’s fitting the biggest game should take place so close to the Big Apple.
