FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots had three starters sit out of practice Wednesday.

Safety Patrick Chung, tight end Rob Gronkowski and wide receiver Julian Edelman weren’t spotted at the beginning of the Patriots’ first practice of the week.

Chung was listed as questionable to play with a foot injury in Week 13 against the Philadelphia Eagles but wound up being on the field for 100 percent of the defensive snaps. This is the first practice Chung has missed all season.

Gronkowski is “week to week” with a knee injury he suffered in Week 12 against the Denver Broncos. He reportedly isn’t expected to play against the Houston Texans in Week 14.

Edelman suffered a broken foot in Week 11 against the Buffalo Bills and isn’t expected back until the playoffs.

New Patriots cornerback Leonard Johnson practiced Wednesday wearing No. 34. New practice squad linebacker Eric Martin also practiced wearing No. 45.
