Denna Laing is making the most out of a terrible situation, and she’s inspiring people in the process. Among them? Boston Bruins CEO Charlie Jacobs.
Jacobs sat down with NESN’s Tom Caron to discuss the impact Laing, who suffered a severe spinal injury during the Outdoor Women’s Classic while playing for the NWHL’s Boston Pride, has made on the hockey community.
He hopes that community can join together to give back to her.
The Jacobs family and the Bruins started that call to action, making a $200,000 donation to the Denna Laing Foundation. Bruins alternate captain Patrice Bergeron also agreed to raffle off tickets to his suite for a game (plus a meet-and-greet for the winners) to raise money for Laing, and Tuesday the NHL announced that the game-used jerseys worn by the Bruins and Montreal Canadiens during Tuesday’s contest at the Bell Centre will be auctioned off with all proceeds going to Laing as well.
